l`auberge des migrants - calais refugee support camp

Logistical hub and homebase for grassroots Calais refugee support. Here, long term volunteers live in donated caravans, each with its own funny name. Volunteers are mostly from the UK or France as well as people from many other European countries, USA and Canada. Refugee Community Kitchen prepare approximately 2,000 healthy meals a day which are transported to the Calais "Jungle" camp, for some this is the only meal they will eat in a day. Theres also a large area dedicated to cutting and preparing wood for those at the refugee camp that can cook for themselves and for heat in the winter, as well as two large warehouses for collecting and sorting clothing donations, tents, and other various donated items. This is not your regular NGO set up, with many artists, teachers and people from all walks of life; the incredibly positive atmosphere is infectious, inspiring and often overwhelming.
